The journey to becoming a real estate professional is reasonably concrete. You take the appropriate licensing education and you can begin to sell in most cases. You then need to continue updating your knowledge to stay informed of the ever changing issues that take place in the real estate market. Becoming a successful Realtor is another storey all together and there is a certain type of person that is more likely to be successful. The industry is driven by individuals making a commission only income in most case, meaning agents are not paid unless the deals they work on close. This certainly implies some income instability at the best of times. Out of that income, or lack there of, agents must pay to advertise the properties they have listed. Money management and strong organizational skills are imperative in this regard. Early on new agents struggle with the financial instability in the market and wild fluctuations in income. A Realtors work day is definitely not a traditional 9 to 5 work day, business takes place at all hours of the day. A new agent will quickly discover that days are irregular and business is taking place night and day. Successful agents are capable of adapting to the fluctuating hours and late nights. The struggle then becomes having a life outside the office. Your family will not appreciate playing second fiddle to your new career. Taking time for family and friends is a constant struggle and the rush of your first deal, can sometimes push thoughts of the people that helped you get were you are, to the back of your mind. You can definitely wake up one morning and realize that you are alone if you’re not careful. You need to be organized and on top of the little things in the office. A deal can fall apart if you forget to waive conditions before the specified time period has elapsed. Negotiations can stall if offers are not responded to promptly. Finally clients will walk away dissatisfied with the service you offered. Attention to detail is required along with an understanding of legalities surrounding real estate transactions. A properly worded condition is imperative to protecting the interests of your client. An improperly worded condition can nullify an offer or leave a party unprotected in the event of a problem. Combine all of these traits into a package that includes optimism and confidence and you have some of the traits required for success in Real Estate.
